what follows is a list of albums i would like to hear.
(if you’ve heard any of these records or know anything about the musicians please comment…if you own any of these please please share the love.)
here ‘tis:
-“Transistor Radio” by M. Ward (“The Transfirguration Of Vincent” is one of my very favourite records…and the only one I have by this blessed songsmith)
-“Joyful Rebellion” by k-os (Bonnie played a good chunk of this album for me…his music is a refreshing mash-up of styles, beats, and melodies…and it really is joyful)
-“Government Commissions: BBC Sessions 1996-2003” by Mogwai (these Scottish lads were highly favoured by BBC legend John Peel…he oversaw much of their work here…a lot of it is live-off-the-floor!)
-“Michegan” by Sufjan Stevens (I saw him at Calvin College for the Faith&Music conference...soft & beautiful music…the man reinvents the banjo as one sexy instrument)
-“Our Endless Numbered Days” by Iron & Wine (b/c Nick Drake is dead)
-“Slanted & Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe” by Pavement (Kat Flohr lent this to me in my second year & I’ve been yearning to hear it again ever since)
-“Lost in Translation” the soundtrack by Kevin Sheilds et co. (…the atmosphere this music helps create is…well watch the movie…oh & I’d like to hear anything else by My Bloody Valentine…I’ve only heard “loveless”)
-“Little Heart’s Ease” by Royal City (cause “Alone at the Microphone” is so beautiful)
-“left & leaving” by The Weakerthans (another CD I heard a couple of years ago…oh and I guess I should add “Reconstruction Site” too.)
-“winter is coming and other songs” by Adam Cotton …there was a day when I had a couple Tindersticks mp3’s on my computer…(sigh)
-“London Calling” by The Clash (okay so I don’t have it, lay off!)
-“Up in Flames” by Manitoba (happy and organic unlike so much other electronic music)
-“The Grace e.p.’s” and “Mystery White Boy” by Jeff Buckley (cause I want more!)
-“goodbye enemy airship the landlord is dead” by Do Make Say Think (b/c “& yet & yet” teleported me to another planet where there’s elevator muzak that’s cool)
-“Like Hearts Swelling” by Polmo Polpo (I saw this guy open for godspeedyou! blackemperor and I’ve longed for a second meeting ever since)
-“Stop Making Sense” by Talking Heads (…and I’d like to see the concert film too!)
- “Fevers & Mirrors” by Bright Eyes (in my second year I had a week long self-taught crash course in recording my music…Nathan Stretch lent this to me…let’s just say it kept me going)
